Close Finance announce Home Makeover Competition winners at ...

Linda Lock, Runner Up with Close Finance

Last month, Close Finance called upon Islanders to nominate a local worthy cause which could benefit from a property make over worth an incredible ?5,000.

In order to make a real difference to Jersey residents, the locally based finance company wanted to lend a helping hand to a charity, club, association or an extremely deserving individual that really needs support.

The entries flooded in with nominations from friends, parents, colleagues and charities ? and on Tuesday 20th November, a team of judges including Lady McColl, Eric Blakeley MBE and Jo Buchanan from Close Finance, sat down to pick the most deserving causes.

Lady McColl, Mr Blakeley and Mrs Buchanan quickly chose three nominations which stood out and the very worthy winners have been confirmed as:

Le Squez Youth Club

Nominated by Jackie De Almeida, Le Squez Youth Club is at the heart of the community attracting up to 200 young people a week.

The entry was won partly due to the nominator?s fun and sense of purpose. Jackie, the Youth Club?s Assistant Youth Worker and former member of the Club said ?I would love the young people to gain some funding to do up a new coffee bar area. This area is well used, however it isn?t very user friendly. Many conversations and laughs have been shared over the years in this area but it lacks comfort and character. The cupboards are hanging off and we?re unable to lock them. It will make a huge difference to the young people and also to the well being of my foot that suffers from a cupboard falling on it every week!?

Linda Lock?s Family

Nominated by Linda, The Lock Family has remained spirited in the face of adversity. Over three years the family has endured challenges including their second son being diagnosed with the brain condition ventriculomegaly at birth. They are awarded for their survival and getting through difficulties by sticking together as a family. Their miracle baby is now two and both children are happy and healthy. Linda says ?Our house is our home but with everything going on we?ve never been able to decorate or make it our own. We?d love to paint a family room and have a piece of furniture which the stuffing isn?t escaping from! It would give them a little boost they deserve.?

Mr & Mrs Scothern

Nominated by Annette Cabot, Kevin and Shirley Scothern always offer support to others despite having problems of their own to deal with. Currently undergoing treatment for a serious illness, Mr Scothern is unable to maintain their garden as he has done in the past. Annette says she?d like her greatest friends to have some support in this difficult time. ?They try to do things around the home when they can but with all the traveling back and forth from hospital, some things are getting out of hand. The fence in the garden has rotted and I know they would appreciate not having to worry about it any more.?

Commenting on the competition Adam Dawson, Managing Director of Close Finance said ?We all want a comfortable, functioning living space which fits our individual needs and lifestyles, but for some the cost of buying new appliances, fittings and furnishings can be prohibitive. At Close Finance we?re delighted to be able to deliver a dream makeover for a some very worthy local causes.
