STOCKHOLM (AP) -Swedish prosecutors have filed charges against 17 people accused of a string of crimes including extortion and kidnapping, with almost half of them also suspected of involvement in the slaying of a professional football player and his brother.

The 26-year old striker for the second-tier Assyriska football club, Eddie Moussa, was gunned down along with his brother Yaacoub at a card-playing venue just south of Stockholm last year. Eight suspects are charged with conspiracy or being an accessory to murder.

Prosecutors filed the charges Wednesday. They say the suspects are believed to be members of an organized crime group and they might also be involved in a third killing that occurred in the same location in 2009.

Fourteen of the suspects are Swedish citizens, while two are Syrian and one is stateless.
