The Open Group and Interactive Technology Software and Media Association (ITSMA) have come together under the EU-INCOOP framework to forge partnerships with high-profile technology developers in India and Europe, in order to coordinate in government-funded IT Research.

The India-EU (EU-INCOOP) project is to invest about ?460,000 in order to streamline the efforts of researchers from Europe and India to address future technology needs in each region.

ITSMA Secretary General Surbhi Sharma, while explaining the intricacies and the significance of the joint research project, said the EU-INCOOP project will provide an important opportunity to integrate the research and development priorities of India with the interests of the EU research community.

"This will provide a way forward to more collaborative projects that achieve greater impact and create new alliances in delivering technologies that will be needed by both regions, " added Sharma.

The Open Group CTO David Lounsbury said they are confident of a collaborative approach for joint research initiatives between EU and India that will lead to more productive systems developers in both regions.

EU-INCOOP consortium, includes KYO; and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), the premier R&D organisation of the Indian Department of Information Technology, ITSMA, the Open Group and Indian Institute of Science from India, who will establish a research roadmap and identify future technology needs in respective regions, apart from fostering European research and development of new technologies, applications and industries.

The EU-INCOOP project is financed in part by the 7th Framework Programme started in October 2011 and last through a span of two years.

The research will also cover several aspects at a micro-level of how individuals work and live, as well as how businesses function and innovate in the global perspective.

The mutual coordination is expected to cover the fields of common interest to both the regions, included but not limited to improved computer languages programming, advanced processor and virtualisation technologies, parallelisation and complexity of computer systems.
