Women?s college basketball: St. Mary?s spoils BYU?s West Coast Conference debut

The Saint Mary?s women?s basketball team spoiled BYU?s debut in the West Coast Conference on Saturday in Moraga, Calif., defeating the Cougars 54-48.

Kristen Riley had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars, who had their 10-game winning streak snapped. Kristen Riley led the Cougars with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Kim Parker added 10 points for BYU (11-3, 0-1).

Saint Mary?s (11-4, 2-0) led 30-24 at halftime before shooting 0-for-17 from the field in the first 13 minutes of the half, allowing BYU?s Haley Steed to tie the game at 31-31 on a jump shot.

But the Gaels pulled away down the stretch for the win. Jackie Nared led Saint Mary?s with 16 points.

Sacramento State 78, Weber State 60 ? In Sacramento, Calif., the Wildcats ventured into the Hornets Nest and came up short in the Big Sky Conference game despite 13 points from Mikell Woodfield.

Sophomore guard Jordan Pfau added nine points and five rebounds for Weber State (0-1, 2-12).

Kylie Kuhns had 17 points and 15 rebounds for Sacramento State (7-8, 2-0).

Boise State 85, Utah Valley 64 ? In Boise, Idaho, Sammie Jensen had 19 points, and Taylor Huber added 17 for Wolverines (6-7), but they fell short in the nonconference game.

Kati Isham scored 20 points for the Broncos (8-6).

South Dakota 81, Southern Utah 69 ? In Vermillion, S.D., Hailey Mandelko scored 13 points to lead six SUU players in double figures, but the Thunderbirds (4-9, 0-3) lost the Summit League game.

Kimie Hawkins added 12 points for SUU, while Carli Moreland and DJ Norman scored 11 each, and Andrea Jones and Brenna Gates had 10 each.
