Celebrating 12 Years; Websites, PR And Marketing For Entertainment - The Very Best And It's Affordable!

WE ARE OURGIG

At OurGig, we are giving back to our communities in ways that we hope will make their most crucial challenges better for everyone involved. While, as a result of the Internet among other things, there is increasing interconnectedness between everyone and everything around the Globe, the majority of the wealth is increasingly being concentrated in the hands of a few. This has long been true in the music business where artists and musicians have shared in the fruits of their creativity in ways that are disproportionately less than the big music companies.

In response to this disparity of wealth-which more than ever today is a worldwide trend-OurGig provides valuable, Internet-based tools to artists and musicians. These are typically individuals with the least amount money who we help re-capture their professional identities, bring them closer to managing their own affairs and allow them to participate in the revenue streams being generated by all kinds of new, social media which they would otherwise be left out of. Because of the number of artists that we have been able to provide these valuable tools to, we are successfully achieving our goal of "putting the music back in the hands of artists". A "radical" philosophy? Maybe-but it is one way we can contribute to helping make, in the words of Carne Ross, the author of "A Leaderless Revolution", a "better world".

THE OURGIG DIFFERENCE

Because of the interconnectedness that exists today like never before, each artist with only a few clicks, can make a difference. We provide a Global artist-musician community with the tools to make the differences they intend to make-through their art, through their messages and through their music. Actions in their own communities can have global impact. The tools that we provide to support them in this way include:

- Providing artists at any level or time in life the valuable tools and resources that ensure they stay connected not just to fans but to valuable revenue stream.

- Connecting new artists with resources to avoid pitfalls of bad or restrictive contracts and remaining independent wherever wise and possible.

- Facilitating economic recovery for older artists utilizing reputation or accomplishments to open opportunities and revenue beyond active years.

- Creating and developing networks in all genres and professions where likeminded artists can share benefits far beyond their own circles or communities.

Egyptian voters will choose from polar opposites in presidential runoff

Egyptian officials announced today that Mohamed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood candidate, and Ahmed Shafiq, Mubarak's last prime minister, will face each other in a June runoff.

By Kristen Chick,?Correspondent / May 28, 2012

Ahmed Shafiq, left, and Mohamed Morsi, right, will face each other in a June run-off election in Egypt. Shafiq is a former prime minister under ousted Egyptian strongman Mubarak, while Morsi is a leading figure in the Muslim Brotherhood.

A Muslim Brotherhood leader will compete with the last prime minister of ousted President Hosni Mubarak to be the next president of Egypt, election officials confirmed today.

The official announcement, which cannot be appealed, finalizes what many had suspected since votes were tallied Friday in Egypt?s first presidential election after a popular uprising pushed Mr. Mubarak from power. Mohamed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood?s candidate, and Ahmed Shafiq, a member of Mubarak?s former regime, will advance to a runoff in mid-June. Out of a field of 13 candidates, Dr. Morsi?received?nearly 25 percent of the vote, while Mr. Shafiq garnered 24 percent.

The election commission overseeing the vote said that about 46 percent of more than 50 million registered voters participated in the election. The commission also denied the appeals filed by several runner-up candidates, who alleged that fraud and violations had affected the results.

But the legal drama is not yet over: Egypt?s high constitutional court has yet to rule on a law passed by parliament that bans members of Mubarak?s regime from politics. Shafiq was disqualified under the new law, but the election commission reinstated his candidacy. Adding to the complications, the constitutional court is not expected to give the final word on the issue until just before the second round of voting.

Some Egyptians are upset that the two most polarizing candidates advanced to the next round with only a quarter of the vote each, while about half of those who voted cast ballots for neither one. Morsi and Shafiq have already begun maneuvering to woo those who voted for other candidates, particularly the non-Islamist ?revolutionaries,? many of whom reject both candidates.

Shafiq, who was prime minister as Mubarak tried to quell the uprising, and who has expressed his admiration of his former boss and his disdain for the revolution, changed his tune in a press conference Saturday. He addressed the young activists who sparked the revolution, saying, ?your revolution was stolen,? and pledging to return it to them.

Morsi, meanwhile, has called for meetings with the third- and fourth-place candidates, both of whom are seen as pro-revolution figures, in an apparent attempt to gain their support in the next round. Members of the Brotherhood?s Freedom and Justice Party have called on political forces to rally around Morsi to defeat the old regime.

Negotiations with other parties or coalitions will be difficult, however, given the promises the Brotherhood has broken over the past year, says Mustapha Kamel Al Sayyid, a political science professor at the American University in Cairo.

?They say something, but they do the opposite, and this does not encourage confidence in their promise,? says Dr. Sayyid. Over the past year, the Brotherhood went back on its pledge to contest only?30 percent of parliamentary seats, broke a promise not to run a presidential candidate, and sought to dominate the committee formed to write a new constitution, after pledging to make it an inclusive process.

Social Media - Putting the Face Back into Business

Social media is a very powerful tool for businesses of any size and it can be a particularly positive tool for the small to medium (SME) sector.? A pet hate of a surprisingly large number of consumers is the ?faceless? aspect of large corporations and one downside of the internet is that faceless is standard for online trading.? Social media can help any business to put some of that ?face? back into the equation.

The Rules of Word of Mouth

Social media is nothing new; at least the techie bit is, but the principle isn?t.? In darker days, when I worked for one of those large faceless corporations, we were regularly told that one bad experience with a company gets passed on ten times and a good one may only be passed on once.? Social Media sites can be the nuclear option for consumers; one bad experience can now be circulated rapidly amongst thousands of people.? On the upside, for businesses, a good experience can get the same treatment.

Professional Body Parts

There are plenty of examples of those large faceless corporations and public bodies getting caught with their pants down on social media.? In the old days, the recreational use of the office photocopier at the Christmas party didn?t usually result in said body part being advertised to your client base, but was limited to your embarrassed and hung over staff.? Not anymore.? Face Book and any other social networking site should be approached with due care and attention.? It can be useful to link to your staff?s personal pages, but it?s a risky business. If you are a small firm there?s a sensible option; create professional pages on Face Book or Linkedin, where you can present a professional body part (your face for example) to your clients or potential clients.

Who?s Who? Where to Find Them?

The conversation, as they say, is now largely on social networking sites; your product should determine where and what conversations you join.? Pinterest and Fancy, Facebook and Twitter, all have their different audiences; the latter two are more ?general? in terms of users.? There?s more research involved when it comes to promoting yourself and gathering a following on these, while sites like Pinterest or Fancy can be a good places to find just the customers you are looking for and promote yourself to your target audience.

Commitment-Phobes Beware

Currently, the demographic in internet-land is still top heavy in favour of the young.? In about twenty years this will adjust to a more balanced and representative mix of society in general, although the internet itself will have changed beyond all recognition.? Social networking sites are currently most popular with the age range 0-30 but that is expanding all the time.? Your product and your social networking activity should be taken into consideration when considering a full-on marketing campaign with a large social networking element.? However, once you have thrown in your lot with the tech savvy youth, don?t neglect them.? If you join the conversation you need to keep it going.? Respond and interact with users on your pages and keep at it.? Renowned for their short attention spans, internet users require constant cultivation.? Before rushing to make social networking a part of your strategy, be sure you are ready for the commitment.

Putting Yourself in Other People?s Pockets

Social media and networking are putting the human into the world of the web.? Twenty years ago computers were things you used at work, not carried around in your pocket.? Today, they are everywhere and they?re always on.? We live an increasingly wired life and, for businesses, this world of the web is where the opportunities lie.? The rise in the face behind the screen is what social networking is about and getting those virtual eyes on your products is a fine art, but an increasingly essential one.

Tropical Storm Beryl moves ashore in northeast Florida

Winds notched up to 65 miles per hour in Florida, where more than 100 people were pulled from ocean waters because of riptides. The Weather Channel's Jim Cantore reports.

By msnbc.com staff and news services

Updated at 12:34 a.m. ET: -- Tropical Storm Beryl began to make landfall early Monday, bringing heavy rain and high winds to northeast Florida, Weather Channel meteorologist Mike Seidel said.

The center of the second named storm of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season moved ashore near Jacksonville Beach at around 12:10 a.m. EDT, the National Hurricane Center said.

The estimated intensity of Beryl at landfall was 70 mph.

Prior to landfall, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration station in Mayport, Fla. reported sustained winds of 44 mph and a wind gust of 59 mph.

Earlier Sunday, Gov. Rick Scott urged Florida residents in the affected areas to "stay alert and aware."

The powerful pack of thunderstorms prompted tropical storm warnings along the coast in northern Florida, Georgia and parts of South Carolina, disrupting Memorial Day weekend plans for some beachgoers and travelers.

?

Beryl was expected to bring 4 to 8 inches of rain to parts, with some areas getting as much as 12 inches. Forecasters predict the storm surge and tide will cause some coastal flooding in northeastern Florida, Georgia and southern South Carolina.

Campers at Cumberland Island, Fla., which is reachable only by boat, were told to leave by Sunday afternoon. The island has a number of undeveloped beaches and forests popular with campers.

Tropical Storm Beryl has residents in Georgia and Florida bracing for drenching rains and driving winds. The Weather Channel Mike Seidel reports.

However, many people seemed determined to make the best of the soggy forecast.

At Greyfield Inn, a 19th-century mansion and the only private inn on Cumberland Island, the rooms were nearly full Sunday; all guests were planning to stay put through the wet weather, said Dawn Drake, who answered the phone at the inn's office on the Florida coast.

In Jacksonville, Fla., Mayor Alvin Brown ordered a state of emergency, ending the Jazz Festival early and urging people to stay out of the water and off the streets, News4JAX.com reported. Workers are also out clearing tree limbs and debris that could be tossed about by the storm's winds.

"We are encouraging all residents to stay indoors," Brown said at a Sunday morning news conference at the Emergency Operations Center.?

Strong waves batter Folly Beach Pier as Tropical Storm Beryl brushes past the South Carolina coast on Sunday.

But business was booming at the Red Dog Surf Shop in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., where customers flocked to buy boards and wax in anticipation of the storm's high waves. Officials all along the coast warned of rip currents, waves and high tides ? all of which can be dangerous but also tend to attract adventurous surfers. The waters had already become dangerous in South Carolina, where rescuers were searching for a missing swimmer.

Watch the most-viewed videos on msnbc.com

In Jacksonville Beach, Fernando Sola said business was booming at his Happy Faces Ice Cream truck. A bus- full of tourists from South Carolina had stopped to buy some ice cream and watch the storm waters churn.

"There are actually more people than on a normal day. It's working out great," said Sola, taking a few moments away from scooping ice cream to people lined up in front of his truck.

Steady, heavy winds kicked up sand across the area, forcing onlookers to shield themselves with towels.

Jessica Smith and Chester Jaheeb decided to brave the waters despite many warnings for people to stay out. Jaheeb, who was born in India but lives in Jacksonville, said he had never experienced a tropical storm before.

"We were at a certain part that started pulling us out, like the rip current, so we decided to come to shore," said Smith, 17.

Taylor Anderson, captain of Jacksonville Beach's American Red Cross Volunteer Lifesaving Corps., said his lifeguards went body-surfing early Sunday to get acclimated with the surf conditions for what looked to be a long day. They also reviewed methods to determine where there might be riptides.

"They look for discoloration, the water moving paradoxically back to sea, and our lifeguards are trained to spot that, to keep people away from that, especially when the surf is this high. It makes those run-outs very dangerous. People can get sucked into those very fast, especially with the high surf and the high wind," he said.

Though the weather was calm earlier Sunday, Anderson's lifeguards began preparing other equipment in the morning. They packed sandbags in front of the entrances to the oceanfront Red Cross lifeguard station and pulled lifeguard stands off the beach.

As the winds picked up, officials hung two red flags, one warning of dangerous ocean conditions and the other notifying beachgoers that swimming was prohibited. But a lot of people ignored the warnings. By 3:30 p.m., Anderson said, lifeguards had made 150 "preventions," meaning lifeguards ordered 150 people out of the water, though no rescues were necessary.

One of the people ordered out the water was Christian Siciliano, 14, of Jacksonville Beach. The surfer said the waves were too rough for surfing so he, his brother and a friend decided to go boogey-boarding.

"We just went out to, like, mess around," Christian said. "It was really rough. I didn't make it out too far, about 10 feet."

He said the waves were so powerful it was difficult to paddle against them. Then lifeguards raced to the area and ordered him and the two other youths from the water.

Joe Murphy, a spokesman for the Ritz Carlton in Amelia Island, Fla., said he was not seeing a flood of checkouts or people trying to get off the island. Outdoor dining had been moved inside and the hotel set up movies and family game activities, but the hotel had no plans to board up or move patio furniture inside.

Tropical storm warnings were in effect for the entire Georgia coastline, as well as parts of Florida and South Carolina. Once Beryl comes ashore, it was expected to continue dumping rain over parts of Florida and Georgia on Monday before heading north and then out to sea. It was expected to weaken to a tropical depression by Monday night.

On Tybee Island, a barrier island not far from Savannah, water off the beaches was closed for swimming Sunday. Tybee Island fire Chief C.L. Sasser said winds of up to 42 mph were creating "horrendous water currents." Only people with flotation devices strapped or tethered to their bodies were being allowed into the water, and they were being cautioned not to venture in farther than knee deep.

"Even if you're standing in waist-deep water, the current can sweep you out quickly," he said.

His ocean rescue team pulled a total of 48 people from the water on Saturday, he said, including about 27 that were considered to be in life-threatening conditions. One man who was sucked under the water was rescued by friends and onlookers and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

A band of showers soaked the beaches late Sunday morning, causing crowds to thin, Sasser said. With alternating rainy and sunny weather forecast throughout the day, he said he expected the crowds on the sands to ebb and flow.

In South Carolina, Janice Keith with the Myrtle Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau said Sunday that the office hadn't fielded any calls from concerned tourists.

In Beaufort County, emergency management deputy director David Zeoli said officials were continuing to monitor the storm and encourage people to have a plan in case conditions get worse.

Zeoli said winds had kicked up in the area that includes Hilton Head Island, a popular golf and beach destination. "It's just a wet day here," he said.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

"He is in love with the Church and adores the Pope": The confessor of the Pope's accused valet, Paolo Gabriele, springs to his defense...

Paolo Gabriele, 46

Paolo Gabriele, 46

Andrea Tornielli
vatican city

The voice of the elderly priest - who wished to remain anonymous - sounded broken from all the crying, as he spoke to Italian newspaper La Stampa, from his home in the Vatican. During the telephone interview he described what he knew about Benedict XVI?s 46 year old butler, Paolo Gabriele, husband and father of three, who was arrested after he was found in ?illegal possession of confidential documents.? Like many in the Holy See, the monsignor is scared and still in shock after yesterday?s events.

?

?I have known Paolo for many years; - he confided ? if the accusations against him prove to be true, there will be no one left to trust any more. I still remember when, some years back, he used to arrive at the Secretariat of State?s offices with his black apron, to clean the floors.?

The prelate recounted how at one time he had been the confessor of this man who eventually left his clearing apron behind, replacing it with an immaculate black suit as he went on to become the papal butler, the lay person closet to the Pope, the man who serves the Pope at his table every day. ?I was his confessor at one time and I can say in all faith that the impression he has always given me is that of a man who is in love with the Church and deeply devoted to the Pope, first to John Paul II and now to Benedict XVI,? he added. The person who helped the young ?Paoletto? to enter to serve in the Vatican is the rector of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Sassia, just a stone throw away from Via della Conciliazione and St. Peter?s Square. The Church is dedicated to the worship of the Divine Mercy of St. Faustina Kowalska and is very dear to the Poles.?

?I find what is going on incomprehensible - the monsignor went on to say ? because Paolo was thought very highly of in the Vatican. I have never heard anyone speak ill of him or spread any rumours about him: and believe me this is rare, because unfortunately ours is a world where nasty things are often said and heard.? The monsignor also shared an important piece of information on the alleged poison pen letter writer who was arrested this morning by the papal Gendarmerie, led by General Domenico Giani. ?Paolo always listened to those who wanted to speak with him; he was always kind and smiley with everyone. He never backed away when someone needed his help, when someone needed his support, and I know this from personal experience.? So many of the Vatican?s lay employees confided in him.

But even thought he monsignor fears that the Pope?s butler will end up being used as a scapegoat, he cannot say that the arrest was made lightly - Fr. Lombardi said - because Paolo Gabriele was found in possession of confidential documents. ?Knowing how simple and na?ve he is, he does not strike me as the kind of person who would be capable of planning such an operation, unless he has a schizophrenic personality. And why would he do such a thing anyway?? A good question indeed and one that is on everyone?s lips in the Holy See. ?We must recall that he is married, has three children and a beautiful family. He came to live in the Vatican about a year ago and spends his free time with his children, helping them with their homework. I cannot imagine what motive he would have to throw all the good things and the life he had built down the drain, betraying the Pope?s trust committing an offense as serious as leaking the documents published in [Italian journalist] Nuzzi?s book. I simply cannot believe it and I hope that he manages to prove his innocence. I remember how devoted he was to the Virgin Mary and how faithful he was to the Eucharist.?

The prelate remained silent for a long while, as if he wanted to chase away a thought that had suddenly entered his mind. ?I remember that after gaining the trust of so many in the Vatican, he ended up coming head to head with someone very powerful here?? Suspicions, resentments and above all, so many unanswered questions.

Improving the Worth of Properties in Toronto by Using A number of ...

The roof can define the personality of your house over any of its outer attributes. Being the topmost part, the roofing is the most visible part of your property, which makes it reign over the exterior structure by being promptly apparent from afar.

Being above, however, can be either advantageous or detrimental. Because it shields the top portion of a building, it serves as a defense against the weather, but its inaccessibility causes it to be least visited or kept. The second item is due to its exposure, or non-visibility, even though it is certainly one of the most essential parts of the property.

The roof is extremely important that a small problem can impact the entire home in various means. Its suitable upkeep must be among the homeowner's top worries. Because roofs are often difficult to access without using a extended step ladder, the owner must take added efforts during roof examination and maintenance.

In Canada, specifically in a metropolitan setting like Toronto, properties come in different styles. While the predominant climates decide on the type of roof materials utilized in the town, the structure usually takes precedence as the basis of choice. A southern colonial house would certainly not look good with cedar shakes roofing, while metal roofing may not be befitting a rustic design house.

Like in different parts of the country, asphalt shingles are the most typical roofing materials in Toronto. Not only cheap, they can also be adapted to practically any house structures and are simple to mount. This is one cause most households choose this material for set up by roofing contractors in Toronto.

A roofing company Toronto based contractor also provides other sorts of roofing materials to homeowners for example concrete tile roofing. Ceramic tile tagged as among the most versatile materials because it can be made to look like terra-cotta tiles, shake, and slate. This roofing material is also very durable and can endure longer than most of the other commercially ready roofing materials.

While many roofing materials fit your home style, you might not need to substitute your roof at once. It is best to first hire professionals on roofing repair Toronto contractors provide to assist you in figuring out your roof's condition-only following their assessment should you choose the kind of roofing material you want for your roof. Gourmet butterflies speed north

ScienceDaily (May 24, 2012) ? A new study led by scientists in the Department of Biology at the University of York has shown how a butterfly has changed its diet, and consequently has sped northwards in response to climate change.

Their study is published in the latest issue of Science.

The researchers found that warmer summers have allowed the Brown Argus butterfly to complete its life cycle by eating wild Geranium plants. Because the Geraniums are widespread in the British countryside, this change in diet has allowed the butterfly to expand its range in Britain at a surprisingly rapid rate. Over the past 20 years, the Brown Argus has spread northwards by around 79 kilometres and has become common in the countryside in much of southern England.

Lead author PhD student Rachel Pateman, of the University of York's Department of Biology and the NERC Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, said: "Many species are shifting their distributions northwards as the climate warms, but this previously scarce species has surprised everyone by moving its range at over twice the average rate."

Co-author Chris Thomas, Professor of Conservation Biology at York, said: "Because wild Geraniums are widespread in the landscape, the butterflies can now move from one patch of host plants to next and hence move rapidly through the landscape -- expanding their range generation after generation."

Co-author David Roy, from the NERC Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, said: "The change in diet represents a change to the interactions between species -- in this case between a butterfly and the plants that its caterpillars eat -- caused by climate warming. Changes to the interactions between species are often predicted to alter the rate at which species shift their distribution in response to climate change; and now we have demonstrated this in nature."

In the 1980s the butterfly was considered scarce in Britain, with populations undergoing continued decline but it has subsequently undergone a dramatic reversal of fortune. The team put this down to the effect of climate on the ability of the butterfly to use additional food plant species.

In the 1980s, the caterpillars were mainly confined to Rockrose plants growing on the chalk hills of southern England, but the use of plant species in the Geranium family has increased as summer temperatures have increased. Wild Geraniums are suitable food plants for the caterpillars in warm years, but not in colder summers. This seems to be because the plants grow in different places, which provide different microclimates. Common Rockrose is found mainly on hot south-facing slopes, where the butterfly can complete its life cycle even in cool summers. This is not the case for the Geraniums and so they only become suitable for the butterfly when summers are warm.

Co-author Richard Fox, from the charity Butterfly Conservation, said: "It is important that we understand how and why species are responding to climate change. Such research would not be possible without the thousands of records of butterflies our dedicated volunteers have collected over many decades, which have allowed us to detect these long term changes."

Rachel Pateman said: "This study has highlighted that species do not respond to climate change in isolation, and that climate change affects how species interact with one another. In the case of the Brown Argus butterfly, changes in interactions with its food plants have helped it to respond to climate change very rapidly. However, changes to interactions may hinder other species, potentially putting them at risk of extinction."

Co-author Professor Jane Hill, of the Department of Biology at the University of York, said: "There will be winners and losers from climate change. It is important that we begin to understand how the complex interactions between species affect their ability to adapt to climate change so we can identify those that might be at risk and where to focus conservation efforts."

Cynthia Nixon: Gay Bi Choice? | Bi Community News

American actress Cynthia Nixon, best known for her role in Sex & The City, set the cat amongst the chattering LGBT pigeons this January with a throwaway comment about her sexual orientation.

Nixon came out in 2004 about her relationship with a woman ? having previously been in relationships with men.

The fresh palaver started with an interview in the New York Times where she said, ?I gave a speech recently, an empowerment speech to a gay audience, and it included the line ?I?ve been straight and I?ve been gay, and gay is better.? They tried to get me to change it, because they said it implies that homosexuality can be a choice. I understand that for many people it?s not, but for me it?s a choice.?

Now, I?d have to say, for me the idea that ?gay is better? doesn?t sit well ? nor bi for that matter.? The old phrase ?GAY = Good As You? comes to mind: that your sexual orientation doesn?t make you better or worse, just different.

However, that wasn?t what seemed to upset people.? Any notion that there is choice over your sexual orientation does seem to meet particular hostility in the USA ? perhaps because of the stronger homophobic social institutions there: if it?s a choice, you can choose to be ?normal?, and therefore (the logic runs) you should and you must.

The outrage seemed especially accented by Nixon?s record of campaigning for gay rights, which won her the 2010 GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) award for a gay media professional who has promoted equal rights for the gay community.

That led to an interview in the Daily Beasr where her past relationships with both men and women were raised.? The interviewer asked if she was: ?a lesbian in a heterosexual relationship? Or a heterosexual in a lesbian relationship??

Nixon said, ?I think for gay people who feel 100 percent gay, it doesn?t make any sense. And for straight people who feel 100 percent straight, it doesn?t make any sense. I don?t pull out the ?bisexual? word because nobody likes the bisexuals. Everybody likes to dump on the bisexuals.?
Of course, her interviewer says, there is a B in LGBT. She tells him, ?I know. But we get no respect.?

?We?? The interviewer leaps on that particular ? ahem ? choice of word.? Does that mean she?s bisexual?

?I just don?t like to pull out that word. But I do completely feel that when I was in relationships with men, I was in love and in lust with those men. And then I met Christine and I fell in love and lust with her. I am completely the same person and I was not walking around in some kind of fog. I just responded to the people in front of me the way I truly felt.?

She goes on to say:

?Look, I understand for political reasons why some people want to kind of squelch this idea that being gay might be a choice, because a lot of the rights we want are posited on the supposition that why are you denying me my rights any more than if I were created a different colour? But I don?t feel the need to cede the definition of what a gay person is to the bigots. They don?t get to define who I am.?

Within days she was making things clearer again, saying that she is bisexual and that she meant she had chosen to be in a ?gay? relationship, but that being bisexual was not a choice, and neither was being gay.

In all the furore about ?choice? though, what I wondered was this: where did Cynthia Nixon get the idea that ?gay? is the better word for who she is and ?bisexual? as a choice of label should be avoided?

If I had a pound for every time someone involved in LGBT equality campaigning has told me that ?gay covers all of it? and therefore there?s no need to separately mention bisexuality, I could make a swift donation to BCN that meant this issue would be in full colour.

Perhaps all those years of ?oh we don?t need to mention the bis? finally bit all those people on the proverbial behinds. If you do keep telling people that ?just saying gay is enough? to cover the different strands of LGBT, sooner or later someone?s going to start believing you and talking like you?re right.

Then they might well say that gay people might have relationships regardless of gender, and that still makes them gay, because ?gay? means all of those things, from ?gold star lesbian? to ?mostly straight?.

And so the ?don?t mention bisexuals? school of thought comes unstuck.

It?s interesting going back to a 2010 Advocate magazine interview where Cynthia talked about her relationship with her girlfriend. She says ?I identify as gay as a political stance? and ?If anybody, prior to my meeting and falling in love with Christine, had asked me about what I think about sexuality, I would have said I think we?re all bisexual. But I had that point of view without ever having felt attracted to a woman.?

If and when we tackle the biphobia in the gay / LGBT movement and wider scene, people like Cynthia might not need to perform the intellectual pirouettes they are pressed into.

Finally: if I were really cynical I?d notice that this all got her reams of press attention just as her new play comes out.? Well, maybe, but it has all served to get one of the largely unspoken faultlines of LGBT talked about.

Warmer days call for a stew that cooks fast

This is a fast-cooking stew, which makes it great for warmer days. The dish comes together in about 45 minutes.

It's also easy. The hardest part is cleaning the leeks, which often are filled with sand that needs to be washed away. First, remove and discard the tough green tops. Next, slice each leek in half and run under cold water, fanning the layers. Slice the leeks, then soak the slices in a large bowl or sink filled with cold water. Finally, remove the leeks from the water with a large skimmer or colander. The 10 minutes this will take is well worth it to ensure a sand-free dish.

There are very few ingredients in this stew, so make them count. Use the best, most full-flavored chicken broth you can find; homemade is best. For the potatoes, try one of the many specialty baby or fingerling potatoes available in stores and at farm markets.

SPRING CHICKEN, LEEK AND POTATO STEW

1- 1/2 pounds baby white or red potatoes, well scrubbed

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 pound trimmed leeks, sliced in half lengthwise, each half thinly sliced (rinsed well)

Salt

Freshly ground black pepper

1- 1/2 pounds chicken breast tenderloins

2/3 cup dry white wine

2 cups no-salt-added or homemade chicken broth

1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh chives

Place the potatoes in a medium saucepan and add water to cover. Cook over high heat until the water boils; adjust the heat to maintain a steady boil and cook for 12 to 20 minutes, until the potatoes are tender. Drain the potatoes in a colander.

While the potatoes are cooking, heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a 4-quart Dutch oven, soup pot or enameled cast-iron casserole over medium heat. Add the leeks. Season with salt and pepper to taste; cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the leeks are very soft but not browned. Adjust the heat as needed.

While the leeks are cooking, season the chicken with salt and pepper. Heat the remaining tablespoon of oil in a large nonstick saute pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Add as many of the tenderloins as will fit without crowding. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, until nicely browned on one side; turn and cook for about 2 minutes, until browned on the other side. The chicken does not need to be cooked through at this point. Transfer to a plate and repeat with the remaining tenderloins.

When the leeks are soft, add the wine. Turn heat to high and bring the wine to a boil; cook for 3 to 4 minutes, until the wine has reduced by half. Add the browned chicken tenderloins and the broth. Once at a boil, reduce the heat to medium-low; cover and cook for 15 minutes, adjusting the heat so the liquid is barely bubbling.

To serve, divide the potatoes among shallow bowls or pasta dishes. Top with the chicken and leeks, spoon the cooking liquids over the chicken and potatoes, and garnish with the chopped chives.

Serves 6.

Car Loan | aussieloans.com.au

Aussie can assit with your Car loan needs ? Call us today on 1300 633 334 and let?s have a chat.

Are you finding it difficult to get personal loan because you have poor personal loan history? Rest assured that you are not the only person in this position. Trying to get finance for property, investment or a car when you are a poor personal loan risk can be very frustrating and stressful. Applying for a personal loan can be the answer to your financial dilemma when you seek personal loan but have a bad personal loan history. Many of us begin our working lives not really understanding the importance of having a very good personal loan history. This is something that we learn as we get older and wiser and begin to contemplate borrowing money for our first car, which we all normally do with a parent acting as a guarantor on the car loan application. Maintaining a good personal loan history from the beginning, that means not making late payments, not defaulting on our first loan and other bills such as our mobile phones which are all recorded against our personal loan history, will make applying for a holiday loan or a home loan that much more easier.

If you have had a history of bad personal loan then don?t despair. You can begin turning your personal loan history around by beginning regular savings. Remember that while one financial institution may knock back your loan application, another may grant it. With a regular income, stable job, regular savings and collateral, you can turn your bad personal loan history around. It also pays to be honest with the lender. If you have defaulted on loans in the past then they will be noted on your personal loan history and the lender will know about it.

A bad personal loan history will certainly be a hindrance to loan seekers. You can?t simply expect to walk into a financial institution and be granted a loan without working at improving your balance sheet. The financial institution will need to be encouraged by regular savings and a regular income that shows your responsibility towards saving and indeed, showing the ability to repay a loan.

The majority of financial institutions will require you to show the following before granting you a loan if you have a bad personal loan history.

  • Constant Income and the ability to pay
  • Stable Employment
  • Regular Savings without being overdrawn
  • Payment of current and previous loans on time

Unfortunately, as a bad personal loan borrower, you will be subjected to larger than normal interest rates. As we have all seen with the sub-prime mortgage fiasco in the United States, people need to borrow money, in this case for homes; they receive home loans at larger rates but then don?t have the capabilities to repay them. While the American banking system was rather liberal in granting these loans to anyone and everyone, the Australian banking industry is fair to say, a little more stringent when it comes to lending money.

As a bad personal loan borrower, you will be charged more than the average Joe when you seek a personal loan. This is because the financial institution is taking a risk because of your previous poor personal loan history. The financial institutions don?t want you to default on your loan, they just want the interest and loan amount repaid.

The bank will still need to be satisfied that you can make your repayments without suffering financial hardship before granting you a loan even though they are going to charge you more to do so. There are two types of bad personal loans available to consumers to take advantage of when seeking finance from a bank.

A secured bad personal loan will require you to provide collateral as a form of security against the personal loan. The bank simply can?t and will not take a risk in lending money to some people who have an extremely bad personal loan history.

Make sure that you understand that the bank can sell your collateral to pay off your outstanding debt. An unsecured bad personal loan does not have any risk for the borrower attached to it. However, for a bad personal loan finance seeker, an unsecured personal loan is generally for a limited amount. A secured personal loan ?is a lot easier for you to have approved than an unsecured personal loan .

  • Pay your bills on time. One of the things that many lenders do is check the history of a person?s mobile phone bill. If you can?t make regular payments for your mobile phone then how will you be able to make regular payments for your personal loan?
  • Begin a regular savings pattern. You need to show that you can pay off a personal loan should it be granted to you. The bank will want to know why you haven?t saved any money and will ask why you can afford to pay off a loan when your bank balance suggests that you need every dollar earned to live on.
  • Make extra payments. Improving your personal loan score will only save you money in the long run. Your next loan will be at a cheaper rate and your extra payments will ensure that your current loan is repaid at a faster rate.

Showing a solid work and savings history is paramount to helping you get a personal loan. Call Aussie on 1300 633334 and we will assist you.

Personal Branding For Two Sides Of Your Life | Business 2 ...

How do you do personal branding for two sides of your life? What if you have two jobs in two wholly separate worlds? And what if each of those jobs could negatively affect the other ? like being a hit man and a politician.

I received an email from David ? who is not a hit man ? but is a religious professional and a businessman, and he wants to brand two versions of the same man.

(1) I am a [religious professional] who promotes and provides adult religious education. (2) I am a successful entrepreneur having retired at age 42, which is when I went back to school to become a [religious professional]. Now I?m 52, doing the [religious professional] stuff and starting a new business at the same time. (3) I am just lil? ole me, a friendly guy with friends, contacts and relatives all over the place. How do I separate them? I need a LinkedIn page for [my day job] who teaches and would like to start doing a series of online [religion] ed videos and blogging about free or low cost quality religious educational opportunities, but I also need a LinkedIn business page ? and neither one has anything to do with the other and could even, potentially, negatively impact the other. Same thing with Facebook and Twitter, but there I may need a third identity for my personal stuff. How do I set this up and enable people to find the me they need or want?

David says he already has LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter identities tied to a previous business website and blog, which no longer exists, but the accounts are just sitting there.

Two separate personal brands

Here is what I would do if I were in a similar situation, trying to develop two separate personal brands.

1. Rescue the Existing Accounts

First, salvage the existing accounts and save them for the business side of life. Clean out and update the bios, put up new avatars, and dust off the connection lists. These are already established as business accounts, so the connections who are already there will understand that my business life changed, and that I?m doing something new.

2. Tie the Personal Account to the ?Religious Professional Stuff.?

Good idea or not, we tend to identify ourselves as our job. That?s how other people see us too. So go with that. Tie the personal account to the day job identity. After all, being a religious professional is a 24/7 job. When I go home, I?m not a blogger. I get to fill the roles of neighbor and friend, as well as family man. When I?m talking to my neighbors, they?re not chanting over and over in their head, ?he?s a blogger, he?s a blogger, he?s a blogger.?

But they do for rabbis, ministers, pastors, priests, and even shamans. While I know most religious professionals don?t want to be defined only by their jobs, don?t bother fighting it. You definitely don?t want a third identity just for personal stuff (i.e. not your day job, and not your sideline). It?s going to be hard enough to keep these two balanced..

Of course, if you don?t want to do the day job thing on social media and want to keep it personal, just don?t list your profession. Be yourself and let people find out by accident when they swear in front of you and then ask what you do for a living.

3. Just Know That People Will Find Out

People are going to find out, for whatever reason, that there is a flip side to my personal coin. They?re work colleagues, or they?re friends who are also business contacts. But they?ll be following one account and one day see the other, and they?ll make the connection.

For that reason, I need to make sure that what I do on one account won?t turn off people on the other account. While this doesn?t apply to David ? most religious pros I know won?t put themselves in an embarrassing situation ? it does apply to businesspeople who think their LinkedIn and Facebook accounts are completely separate. They?re not, so avoid embarrassing situations

But what David does need to be aware of is that you can?t do things that one side of your life will find to be completely incompatible with the other side, like being a hit man and a politicians.

(All your hit man friends will be all judgmental and go, ?Ewwwwww!! Ga-ROSS!?)

It?s possible to keep two sides of your life separate from each other, but don?t expect that they will stay that way forever. The streams will be crossed. Your friends and connections will find you have a second side to your life, and you?ll be seen as a more complete person. Of course, if that?s a problem for you, then do what you can to keep those two sides separate, but make sure you don?t have anything embarrassing or upsetting to people from the other side.
