HAMMOND, Ind. ? The Purdue University Calumet women?s basketball team received four votes in final regular-season installment of the NAIA Div. II Coaches? Poll, but the team would fall just short of an at-large bid for the NAIA National Tournament. The Peregrines finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 23-10 overall mark, the program?s best record since 2003-04.

The Black and Gold were one of two Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference teams to receive votes in the poll, as Cardinal Stritch earned a No. 15 ranking en route to a fourth seed in the national tournament bracket.

College of the Ozarks, Concordia (Neb.), Davenport and Indiana Wesleyan were all rewarded No. 1 seeds for the NAIA Tournament in Sioux City (Iowa), while Concordia (Mich.), Grand View (Iowa), Morningside (Iowa) and Northwestern (Iowa) were named No. 2 seeds.

Purdue Calumet is set to return all but one player from this season?s squad, including four starters. PUC head coach Tom Megyesi will also employ three newcomers next year, as standouts Alli Gentry, Stacy Groom and Tory Shrum will join the fray.

Position Overview

The Budget and Reporting Manager is a key member of our growing finance and operations team. She/he is responsible for managing the organizations budgeting system, policies, and processes and working with department\region budget owners to create and monitor operating budgets. She/he is accountable for preparing and providing financial and narrative reports and analysis to programs, senior management and the board of director. She/he will ensure accurate and timely alignment of grants budgets with institutional operating budgets. She/he ensures consistent and accurate entry of balance score card data, as well as accurate analysis and presentation of this information.

This position under the supervision of the VP, Finance & Operations is expected to provide leadership in the areas of budget and grant management systems improvement and taking initiative to implement new processes to support Rares growth.

Task/Duty/Responsibility
Budget Management and Reporting

Lead development of institutional planning and budgeting process (both revenue and cost), including the development of the budget manual and templates, creation of tools to develop work plans, work with programs developing budgets, and reconciliation of budgets with programmatic work plans and organizational goals.
Lead the production of financial analyses and presentations for Rares Board of Trustees throughout the year.
Develop regular financial reports and analysis forecasting and trending budget performance and institutional financial positioning for VP, Finance and Operations and Senior Leadership team.
Assist the VP of Finance and Operations, Chief Operating Officer, and executive leadership team on special projects that require financial analysis.
Lead processes and communications regularly working with department/region budget owners across the organization to monitor and revise budgets throughout the year and life of project(s).
Ensure compliance with current budget and spending policies, and propose improved policies and systems regarding spending guidelines, cost savings, cost allocation, and annual planning.
Develop and maintain templates and SOPs related to budget management.
Liaise with both the development team and their systems to ensure that across departments there is financial continuity, accuracy, and adherence to key processes such as clear cost and revenue accounting, reporting and compliance.
Work with the Finance team to streamline internal financial reports and reporting processes to deliver more efficient, more effective, and more useful reports and analysis.
Provide training to staff on budget management processes and systems
Grants Management

Guarantee grants budgets align with institutional budgets and forecasts.
Closely monitor grant performance for major institutional donors.
Work with grants management team to ensure that key processes and systems are in place to manage grant risk assessments, donor financial compliance, and reporting management processes.
Balance Scorecard (BSC)

Manage and maintain the online BSC tool
Coordinate quarterly data updates and prepares reporting for senior leadership and Board of Trustees.
Provides training to staff of BSC processes and systems
Required Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities)

Bachelors Degree in Business administration, Finance or closely related field; Masters Degree highly preferred.

5-7 years of budgeting, financial reporting and financial systems work experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
Advance proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with financial systems integration.
Experience in budgeting and budget planning including development of annual budgets, forecasting and variance analysis.
Experience of grants management implications in budgeting and with proposal budget development.
Knowledge of accounting software (e.g. Sage MIP)
Demonstrated project management and problem solving and ability skills to find creative solutions.
Proven ability to prioritize projects and initiate follow through with meticulous attention detail.
Excellent data presentation skills and ability to write clearly and concisely.
Exceptional interpersonal skills; tact, patience, diplomacy, confidentiality and integrity.
Proficiency in other languages a plus, especially Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese or Bahasa Indonesia.

U.S. News - Feds allege $279 million auto insurance fraud scheme ...

Federal agents and NYPD detectives have arrested dozens of suspects on federal charges of participating in a $279 million insurance fraud scheme.

The 36 people charged include 10 doctors and three attorneys who are alleged to have participated in the scheme, officials said. They face maximum jail sentences ranging from 30 to 70 years, if convicted.

Suspects were charged with racketeering and money laundering, among other counts. Officials said the Brooklyn-based operation was the largest single no-fault auto insurance fraud scheme ever charged.

The scheme took advantage of a state law requiring every vehicle in New York state to have no-fault auto insurance, enabling the driver and passengers to get benefits of up to $50,000 per person for injuries suffered in an accident, regardless of fault.

Under the law, payments for medical treatments had to be made quickly, meaning those in the car would not have to file time-consuming personal injury lawsuits.

Some medical clinics have been created in New York entirely for the purpose of defrauding insurance companies under the no-fault law.

In some cases, clinic operators would also arrange for other allegedly fraudulent businesses to give unnecessary treatments, and would provide referrals from doctors. Those treatments were also billed to the auto insurance companies and included acupuncture, physical therapy, X-rays, and orthopedics.

In return, the clinic heads received cash kickbacks for the referrals.

The scheme also used recruiters to bring in patients, and paid them thousands per referral.

The operation had ties to Russian organized crime, officials said.

"The criminal enterprise, while it lasted, was obscenely profitable," FBI?Assistant Director-in-Charge Janice K. Fedarcyk said in a statement.

Those charged will be arraigned in federal court in Manhattan.

Most Americans Unprepared for Disasters due to no money or time ...

Disaster preparedness isn't always top of mind. In fact, many of us do not think about it until it's too late. According to a February?Persuadable Research Corporation?survey, over half of respondents believe that they are unprepared for a disaster. What motivates people to prepare for disasters? Mainly personal experience. The vast majority, 82%, of those who were now prepared said that they had a previous brush with a disaster of some sort. Also, from those who were prepared, 27% were ready because they wanted to be able to care for other family members in the home such as children, grandchildren or even a spouse. Why aren't people prepared? It seems that 38% have never thought about it much. Nearly half, 48%, stated that they don't have the money to prepare and 15% claim that they don't have time. One out of five respondents said they intend to "just wing it" if a disaster strikes. The remainder pointed to reasons such as someone else is preparing on their behalf or that they live in an area without natural disasters. Is the Federal Government going to save us? There's a lot of doubt out there about this. It seems that 28% are unsure if the government would be able to handle a major natural disaster in their area, while another 30% of panelists flat out think they can't. "After seeing the Katrina mess and resulting federal help, if you can call it that, I have little to no faith in the federal government", said one respondent. The numbers are even worse when asked about man-made disasters. In this case, 41% were unsure and 35% said the government would not be able to handle it. Additionally, 68% believe that the government is not doing enough to educate the public. A majority of panelists, 66%, had never even heard of the government websitehttp://www.Ready.gov?which is devoted to the topic.

For those who don't believe they have enough time or money to prepare, they might try purchasing one item per week or month for a disaster kit.
