Your Mexico Agent ? What to Look for When You Buy Real Estate

If you are buying real estate in Mexico, one of the most important decisions you need to make is choosing your Mexico agent. Since Mexico has fewer requirements about who can offer their services as a real estate sales agent, it is your job to make sure that your agent is qualified and reliable.

?

The following definitions will help you in evaluating the agent you work with.

?

Mexico Broker. The broker is the professional who oversees the transactions of a given real estate office. It is of very high importance that the broker is qualified for this work. Official knowledge that can be demonstrated is essential. When you are choosing your real estate office, you can ask to see certificates; degrees and course in real estate are offered, and having these reflects a commitment to professionalism on the part of the broker. Since it is the broker who oversees the transactions, it is important that they are professional with official certification reflecting a thorough knowledge of the processes involved.

?

Mexico Realtor. The term Realtor officially refers to brokers agents affiliated with NAR (the National Association of Realtors) in the U.S. or CREA (Canadian Real Estate Association) in Canada. Mexico?s only professional real estate association (AMPI) has aligned to the professional standards of NAR, and its members are Realtors. It is to your advantage to work with an agent affiliated with AMPI. For example, if you work with a Playa del Carmen Realtor affiliated with AMPI, rather than just any agent, you can be sure that they will follow the organization?s code of ethics and offer a certain level of professionalism.

?

Mexico Agent. In your actual real estate search and purchasing process, you will be working closely with an agent within a real estate office. There are three important points you need to identify with your agent. One is that he is working in a professional office, where the broker is qualified with certificates and degrees, and associated with AMPI; another is that he has a very strong knowledge of the area, and is able to identify a property that suits your needs; and finally, that he is committed to your best interest, and finding the property that is most suitable for you. With these three in place, you should also feel a sense of comfort ? a good ?gut feeling? as some people say ? about the agent you work with.

?

It is worth considering these points early on before going too far into the process; it could save you a good deal of time and head aches later on.
